July 17, 2010

In memory of “Uncle Bill” Lantz, the father of Kanakuk our next to last day of kamp is always dedicated to the “Bill Lantz Memorial Pentathlon.” In Uncle Bill’s days at Kanakuk we ran the hills, swam in the lake, paddled canoes, did chin ups and shot arrows. The pentathlon does those five sports in an all kamp times race. Many kids do the “individual” (all the events) while the majority do the events as a cabin team.

Of course the girls “bond” with all cabin tie die shirts, head bands, visors, etc., etc. (it’s all in how you dress!)

Tonight is final campfire. Every camper gets a paintbrush and a chance to bring their paint brush to the cross symbolizing that they are committed to not let friends, alcohol, drugs, porn, partying, “paint their portrait.” They are going to give their “life portrait” paintbrush to Jesus Christ.

It is a stirring evening at the cross. I hate to see it end.
